Jesus Hernandez began dreaming of racing cars as a little boy, while listening to his Uncle Jose recount dramatic tales of street racing. Years later, when Jose’s garage, the family’s sole source of income, is lost in a fire, Jesus and his brother Miguel, leave their home in Mexico for the promise of higher paying jobs in the United States. Through their struggles as "illegals" in a strange land of promise, and as Jesus fulfills his childhood dream, the two brothers discover what it means to reach for the American Dream while challenging those around them to re-examine what it means to be an American.
