Back 40 Films shoots documentary on "The Vanishing Hemlock."
The purpose of this documentary is to enlighten viewers to the infestation of the HWA and its devastating impact on the eastern and Carolina hemlock trees and the resulting loss of unique southern forest eco-systems. The history of the infestation, the lack of timely response by government officials, misinformation related to the HWA infestation and treatment, the dramatic effect on southern Appalachian ecosystems (specifically within Smoky Mountains National Park), the current efforts underway to preserve remaining wild hemlock on both private and public lands and a call to action (high quality old-growth hemlock forests in TN, GA, AL have not yet been affected by the HWA) will form the basis of the film. (See production stills from the shoot in the gallery).
